Kalibo airport was partly being renovated when I went to the Philippines last year. The other building was actually a new building which was under construction for international flights.
The Kalibo airport international terminal was just beside the domestic terminal. The Kalibo airport has been accommodating international flights from other Asian countries already like Korea and China.
Visitors who went to Boracay were accommodated at the Kalibo airport. They no longer went through Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Metro Manila.
Ninoy Aquino International Airport have expanded several years ago.
The NAIA Terminal 2 or Centennial 2 has been utilized for quite a long time already. Philippine Airlines has been using it for its domestic and international flights.
If you were flying Philippines Airlines from other countries going to the Philippines and had a connecting domestic flight with the same airline, there was no need to transfer from one terminal to the other terminal.
But if you were having a connecting domestic flight with another airline, there was a need to transfer from Terminal 2 to the other terminal depending on what airline.
The other terminal, NAIA Terminal 3 has also been utilized. Cebu Pacific Air has been using it for both its domestic and international flights.
Just like Philippine Airlines, if you were flying Cebu Pacific Air from other countries and had a connecting domestic flight with the same airline, there was no need to transfer from one terminal to the other terminal.
If you were flying with other airlines other than Philippines Airlines and Cebu Pacific Air going to the Philippines, the aircraft docked at the NAIA Terminal 1. If you were having a connecting domestic flight, there was a need to transfer from Terminal 1 to the other terminal depending on the airline.
If you were having a Philippine Airlines domestic connecting flight, you have had to transfer to Terminal 2.
If you were having a Cebu Pacific Air domestic connecting flight, you have had to transfer to Terminal 3.
For other domestic airlines, the other airlines has been using the domestic terminal which was the old MIA terminal.
The three terminals and the domestic terminal were not connected with each other. There was neither tram nor train available. There was a need to take a cab or a taxi or a car from one terminal to the other terminal.
There was a vehicle outside of the Terminal 1 going to the other terminals but I was not so sure of its reliability and efficiency as I have not tried it.
